Drawings, sketches and archive material recount the early career of the designer who revolutionised contemporary elegance.

From the first sketches, characterised by vibrant colours and sophisticated lines, through to the emergence of an increasingly minimalist style, the distinctive traits that have made Armani a global benchmark come to the fore.
These are the pivotal years between 1975 and 1980, documenting the evolution of an aesthetic language that revolutionised the very concept of elegance.

The exhibition, curated by Martina Bacci di Capaci, traces the origins of the creative journey of one of the most influential figures in international fashion, drawing inspiration from the Giorgio Armani Collection held at the CSAC – Centre for Studies and Communication Archives, donated by Armani himself in 1982, and offering the public a selection of drawings, sketches, fabric samples and materials that recount the birth of a style destined to define an era.

Particular attention is given to the famous unstructured jacket, a symbol of the stylistic revolution introduced by the designer, capable of transcending rigidity and traditional conventions to propose a new concept of comfort, fluidity and refinement, in both men’s and women’s wardrobes.

The exhibition also explores the deep connection between fashion and cinema that has contributed to the international success of the Armani brand, through images, documents and materials that bear witness to collaborations that have become iconic and instantly recognisable around the world.
