Anna Maria Fabriani - Storia della pittrice nascosta (History of the hidden painter), the exhibition of the artist, 100 years old at the end of last June, pupil of Carlo Socrate and ‘hidden’ interpreter of the 20th century painting tradition, arrives in Lucca.

The exhibition, curated by Sabina Ambrogi, brings together more than 70 paintings, which can be seen from 10 November to 1 December at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni of the Fondazione Banca del Monte di Lucca.

The occasion to take a journey through Italian art from the 1940s onwards. In the elegance of the artist's rich production, one can grasp the training at the Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Carlo Socrate, one of the greatest exponents of the Roman School, and the vision of a historical-social period, that of patriarchal Italy after the Second World War, in which Fabriani, like many women of the time, cultivated her artistic talent within the walls of her home, almost self-censoring, without ever thinking of ‘being up to it’ to reveal herself to the world.

A first section consists of a selection of some works executed under the direct guidance of Carlo Socrate at Villa Strohl-Fern; a second section offers a selection of still lifes and some portraits, including that of his daughter Sabina, who curated the exhibition. This second part is heralded by the portrait of her husband Silvano, started in 1960, left unfinished and finished in 1997, a few months after his death. The artist resumed painting from this time onwards, at the age of seventy, producing over a hundred works.

The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
