Sala Tobino di Palazzo Ducale. Cortile Carrara - Lucca
Enrico Pea scrittore eccezionale. Unpublished documents, letters, books, original photographs and paintings to tell the story of one of the most sincere and significant voices of the Italian 20th century: Enrico Pea, writer, poet, playwright and theatre impresario.
The exhibition, from 23 November 2024 to 12 January 2025 in the Sala Tobino of Palazzo Ducale, brings to light the figure and work of the Versilia-born author (1881-1958).
The exhibition itinerary is divided into four sections, covering the fundamental stages of Pea's life and literary production: the first three recount the significant biographical phases, the fourth the friendship relations with the greats of the 20th century. What emerges is a multifaceted figure with a leading role in the cultural and literary panorama of the early 20th century.
Enrico Pea was also an art lover, a friend of Viani, Carlini, Levy, Nomellini and other artists whose works he collected. Among these are numerous portraits of Pea, such as the one of the Leghorn painter Fanelli; an unpublished painting that captures his restless and non-conformist essence and that, precisely for this reason, was chosen as the image for the exhibition.
Of great historical and literary interest are the correspondence with Giuseppe Ungaretti and Ezra Pound, and those relating to the friendship and collaboration with Giacomo Puccini, centred on the creation of open-air theatres in Versilia.
The exhibition is organised by the Associazione Amici di Enrico Pea and the Province of Lucca, and curated by Giovanna Bellora, president of the association and great-granddaughter of Pea, and Marcello Ciccuto, professor of Italian Literature at the University of Pisa.
The exhibition can be visited every day, except Mondays, with opening hours of 10 a.m. / 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. / 6 p.m.
