Sala dell'affresco Complesso di San Micheletto. Via San Micheletto, 3 - Lucca
The intimate, everyday scenes of Silvestro Lega, the landscapes of Plinio Nomellini, the canvases of Giovanni Fattori, Galileo Chini, Giovanni Boldini, Oscar Ghiglia and many other protagonists of Italian art at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The fresco hall of the Complesso di San Micheletto hosts, from 16 November 2024 to 6 January 2025, the exhibition Arte tra due secoli. Works from the Vincenzo Giustiniani | 1875-1920 Collection, under the scientific direction of Paolo Bolpagni, director of the Ragghianti Foundation.
A selection of works never before exhibited to the public and coming from the Vincenzo Giustiniani Collection, recently donated to the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca by Baroness Diamantina Scola Camerini, niece of the collector.
Among the exhibits is Leopolda Banti at the spinet, an oil on panel portrait applied on cardboard of the wife of painter Cristiano Banti. The woman is immortalised with the textural, rapid and sweeping brushstrokes of Giovanni Boldini, one of the Italian artists closest to the language of Impressionism. His is also The Sifting of the Grain which, in its minute format, enhances the author's crystalline touch. Also on display are a whole lot of landscapes by Plinio Nomellini and Silvestro Lega's vibrant views.
The exhibition offers the opportunity to discover Vincenzo Giustiniani as a fairly talented self-taught painter, capable of transposing the atmosphere of rural life onto canvas. Some figures linked to the rural world emerge in his production, recalling his experience as the owner and manager of the Forci estate, such as the oil on paper entitled Peasant Woman Stirring Grapes in the Vat, a simple scene inspired by the grape harvest period, which is striking for its effectiveness, immediacy and skilful rendering of the subject.
The exhibition can be visited from Friday to Sunday and holidays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Closed on 25 December.
