Chiesa di San Cristoforo. Via Fillungo - Lucca
Centro di Gravità Permanente. Il concetto di casa nella vita nomade di oggi (Permanent Gravity Centre. The concept of home in today's nomadic life) is the contemporary art exhibition by painter Gudrun Schmidt in the Romanesque church of San Cristoforo in Via Fillungo.
An exhibition inspired by the ancient textiles of Uzbekistan that characterised the nomadic life of that people, a starting point for exploring the concept of nomadism in modern life. 16 large canvases that address a current theme, that of the classic "stability" understood as living in one place, one house, one country, one city for most of one's life. A concept that is becoming increasingly rare today: changes in living together, also transgenerational, new family models, job mobility of people working and living in different cities, smart-working, migration and emigration for economic reasons.
Gudrun Schmidt presents these themes with a visual language of organic and abstract forms, signs and symbols resulting from intuition, dreams and mythology, experiences of the soul and memory, materiality provided by collage elements and a bold sense of colour and space, with the aim of stimulating the imagination and finding new meanings in the multi-layered surfaces and "hidden" signs of her works.
The exhibition can be visited from 22 to 31 May 2025, 4.30 p.m. / 8 p.m.
