Habitus Fidei - Le vesti delle confraternite: un cammino tra arte, storia e fede (The vestments of the confraternities: a journey through art, history and faith).

A travelling exhibition arrives in Lucca, in the church of Santi Giovanni e Reparata, which first opened at Palazzo Lanfranchi, home of the Museo della Grafica in Pisa, before continuing its journey, after its Tuscan stops, to Lugano at Villa Ciani.

A journey of discovery through Italian confraternities, with a particular focus on ceremonial garments, symbols and documents that recount their role in different local contexts. In addition to the garments, liturgical objects, ancient statutes, prints and archival materials are on display, helping visitors to understand the practices and identity of these ancient religious associations.

Thanks to its privileged position along the Via Francigena, an important pilgrimage route since the Middle Ages, Lucca has gathered religious, artistic and cultural influences over the centuries that are reflected in its confraternity traditions, which are still part of its rich spiritual and historical heritage today.

The exhibition is curated by Lorenzo Cantoni, University of Lugano; H.E. Monsignor Paolo Giulietti; Olimpia Niglio, University of Pavia and Archdiocese of Lucca; Alessandro Tosi, University of Pisa.

The exhibition is open from 17 September to 25 October 2025, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is included in the ticket to visit the church, baptistery and archaeological area.
