St Michael the Archangel is regarded as the leader of God’s army, the defender of the faith against evil. In Lucca, from the heights of the church bearing his name in the heart of the historic centre – where the ancient Roman forum once stood – he protects the city like a warrior, engaged in a victorious battle against the dragon. His image and his benevolent ‘shadow’ invite us to seek a spiritual dimension, to detach ourselves from earthly matters and reconnect with the divine.
The Shadow of Michael. A Presence of Light is a visual and auditory journey into the energy and spiritual power of the Archangel Michael.
The exhibition is open from 2 to 30 September 2026 at the Church of St Alexander, daily from 10 am to 8 pm.
