Events

On July 12, 1664 cannons placed on the Walls near Porta San Donato were fired in honor of San Paolino, but accidentally the shots were directed at the crowd in the area. There were no deaths or injuries, and the miracle was attributed to San Paolino.

Every year, in remembrance of the event, the city celebrates with religious celebrations, events and historical re-enactments, musical events, markets and neighborhood feasts. 

One of the most expected moments is the Crossbow tournament, with crossbowmen from the city's tertieri, San Paolino, San Salvatore and San Martino, competing for the prize made each year by a contemporary author.

12 July
10:30 a.m. - Basilica of San Paolino. Solemn Pontifical presided over by Archbishop Paolo Giulietti, Archbishop of Lucca.
13:00 - Gunnery of the Baluardo di San Donato. Artillery Gazarre in commemoration of the Miracle of San Paolino on 12 July 1664.
9:30 p.m. - Piazzale Verdi/Piazza San Michele/Piazzale Arrigoni. Historical parades
10 p.m. - Piazzale Arrigoni. 50th Crossbow tournament in honour of San Paolino.
