Every year, after Easter, Lucca celebrates the Festival of Freedom, which commemorates the moment in April 1369 when the people of Lucca regained their long-awaited independence, thanks to Emperor Charles IV of Bohemia, after 40 years of foreign rule.
From 7 to 12 April, a packed programme of cultural events and historical re-enactments will mark the occasion with a host of activities.
There will be plenty of opportunities for cultural exploration and historical re-enactments.
