Centro storico di Lucca
Biennial exhibition of art, paper and cardboard architecture and design. The most innovative and prominent figures in Paper Art will enliven the city of Lucca during summer months, with art exhibitions, development projects, performances, lectures and workshops.
Lucca Biennale Cartasia is therefore a city, a territory and its excellence, told by artists through paper, a tradition of Lucca's area since the early 1300s.
Each urban space is "adopted" by an artist and a paper company. The former offers creativity, the latter patronage and support.
Here and Now: Tomorrow is the theme of 2024 edition.
Everything in contemporaneity is ephemeral, instantaneous: humans seem to act only in the here and now, without consequences, as if there were no tomorrow. Artistic expression is a binocular pointed precisely at tomorrow, at the infinite possibilities the human mind has to travel beyond its boundaries, in search of new possibilities and new worlds to imagine, discover and build.
At the same time, knowing how to live in the present is a fundamental aspect of our existence. The here and now is the only time we have to exist, grow, feel, love and rejoice. We often forget it by acting mechanically and repetitively; the outside world, society, commitments and social media constantly call our attention away from the here and now, snatching it away from the here and now, putting it off to another time, perhaps to tomorrow.
During the days of Cartasia, it is possible to see monumental paper sculptures by Italian and international artists in the Outdoor (outdoors) and Indoor (indoors) exhibitions, attend performances and participate in workshops for children and families.
Free outdoor exhibitions; ticketed exhibitions at Palazzo Guinigi.
