The striking space of the San Franceschetto Church is illuminated by the light and colors of two works by Pompeo Girolamo Batoni from Lucca, one of the most famous painters of the 18th century, popular and in demand during his lifetime by popes, cardinals and rulers from all over Europe.

On display from June 18 to October 2 the two masterpieces Minerva infuses the soul into the human figure modeled in clay by Prometheus and Atalanta mourns Meleager dying, subjects executed between 1740 and 1743 for Marquis Lodovico Sardini of Lucca.

Two clear and brilliant canvases that immortalize classical themes taken from Ovid's Metamorphoses, testifying to the artist's great mythological passion and remarkable evidence of his early mature age, when he was torn between his studies in Rome and commissions in his hometown, which he always felt very close to.
