A selection of films directly from the most important international festivals, screenings among national and international premieres, short films, exhibitions, thematic conferences, meetings, master classes, musical events and international guests enliven the days of the Lucca Film Festival, scheduled from September 23 to October 1.

The 2023 edition is marked by celebrations of great films and masterpieces of cinema, from Federico Fellini's "I Vitelloni" to William Friedkin's "The Exorcist" and Luchino Visconti's "Il Gattopardo".

Among the international guests of honor is Oscar-winning U.S. actress Susan Sarandon, who receives the Lifetime Achievement Award at Cinema Astra on September 28 and is the protagonist of a masterclass open to the public, moderated by Thomas De La Cal and organized in collaboration with the IMT School for Bright Night 2023, on September 29 at 5:30 p.m. in the Church of San Francesco.
In the evening, the orchestra of the L. Boccherini Conservatory with soprano Silvana Froli celebrates its Lucchese origins with a concert dedicated to Giacomo Puccini in Piazza della Cittadella.

Another great international guest is Isabelle Huppert, who receives the Lifetime Achievement Award on September 25 and a tribute screening - in French with Italian subtitles - of her latest film "The Truth According to Maureen K."

This year as guests also big names of Italian cinema.
To actress Stefania Sandrelli the Outstanding Woman in Film Award and the Lucca Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award.
Director and screenwriter Mario Martone is the star of a masterclass on September 24, and receives the Lifetime Achievement Award and a special honor from the Giacomo Puccini Foundation.
On Saturday, September 30, Oscar-winning director and screenwriter Gabriele Salvatores is the guest speaker at a masterclass and gala evening where he receives the Lifetime Achievement Award.
This will be followed by a big celebration for the 10th anniversary of Lucca Effetto Cinema, with a special live event in Piazza San Michele as a tribute to Salvadores' cinema, featuring sets, performers, actors and the live music that Federico De Robertis composed for him.

Lucca Effetto Cinema is the event that animates the historic center with micro-performances co-produced by the festival together with amateur acting associations and local and national dance companies.

On October 1, actor and director Kim Rossi Stuart is the star of a masterclass and receives the festival's Lifetime Achievement Award in the evening.

The Lucca Film Festival's competitions and screenings are divided into features and shorts, as well as 9 out-of-competition films including a world premiere, joined by the new short film competition LFF for Future, dedicated to environmental issues with innovative narrative, documentary and animation storytelling modes.

At Palazzo Pfanner the exhibition Anni '80s Effetto Cinema, curated by Alessandro Orsucci.
