Museo Nazionale di Villa Guinigi. Via della Quarquonia, 4 - Lucca
Two unpublished works by Matteo Civitali found thanks to fingerprints on display at the National Museum of Villa Guinigi, until Sunday, October 2.
The temporary exhibition entitled Nuovi studi su Matteo Civitali. The Salvator Coronatus of Santa Maria Corteorlandini and the Madonna and Child of Colle di Compito enriches the museum with an innovative and sustainable project and two new works by the master.
The Vir Dolorum in polychrome wood that Matteo Civitali carved in 1487 for the oratory of the disciplined confraternity of San Lorenzo dei Servi in Lucca is fundamental to illustrate the stylistic evolution of the Lucchese master and to highlight the slight differences with the Salvator Coronatus of Santa Maria Corteorlandini.
The unpublished Madonna and Child of Colle di Compito is compared to two similar subjects, respectively from the Loggia of the Corte dei Mercanti and from the church of Sant'Andrea in Pelleria in Lucca.
The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Saturday, 12 p.m. / 7:30 p.m. and the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month, 9 a.m. / 7:30 p.m.
