Ricordi di Viaggio: quando e come è nato il Souvenir - Travel memories: when and how souvenirs were born, curated by Professor Franca Maria Vanni, from 23 September 2023 to 31 May 2024 at the Museum of the Ancient Mint of Lucca.

The protagonists are "travel memories" better known as "souvenirs", the small objects purchased during a trip to imprint in the memory the image of a place, a monument, a visited landscape that we would like to remember forever. A testimony of the places crossed and loved throughout life.

In the neoclassical age, the renewed interest in the ancient world pushed Orazio Barsanti's Lucca factory to enter the souvenir industry by creating plaster copies of masterpieces of the ancient world that were small in size and therefore easily transportable. Furthermore, the lower cost of these objects made it possible for even less wealthy travelers to purchase a reduced copy of an ancient monument or statue as a souvenir of a pleasure or educational trip to the most important capitals of Europe.

Inauguration on Friday 22 September at 5.30 pm.
The exhibition can be visited from Monday to Friday from 9.30 am / 12.30 pm - 2.00 pm / 5.00 pm.
