An unusual and surprising aspect of Maestro Giacomo Puccini, linked to one of his many passions: photography.

Qual occhio al mondo. Puccini fotografo, an exhibition curated by Gabriella Biagi Ravenni, Paolo Bolpagni and Diana Toccafondi, from February 16th to April 1st 2024, in the Fresco Room of San Micheletto Complex in Lucca.

Over eighty original shots for a unique experience: a photographic journey to observe the world through the lenses of the famous composer from Lucca.

The photographs in the first section document the places Puccini was used to attend, from Torre del Lago to Chiatri, from Boscolungo to Ansedonia, with a special focus on his residences. On display a selection of original shots, along with an album created by Puccini himself; further additional unpublished images are digitalized and reproduced in the exhibition. 

The second section is dedicated to Puccini's travels in Europe, the American continent and Egypt, with focus on panoramas, populations and his sea crossings.
The photographs are mainly made with the aristotype technique and are predominantly panoramic, a format due to the camera used, a rare Kodak model on display.

The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday with opening hours from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Special opening on April, Monday 1st.
